It is the most recorded song of all time, and has been performed by everyone from the Beach Boys to Charlie Parker, from Bob Marley to Bob Dylan. ''Irving,'' he said upon first hearing the song, ''you won't have to worry about that one.'' I was as thrilled as he was.'' The laid-back Bing Crosby gushed in his own fashion. And no piece of music is more closely associated with the holiday than ''White Christmas.'' When Irving Berlin introduced it to his longtime musical arranger, Helmy Kresa, in January 1940, he burbled, ''Not only is it the best song I ever wrote, it's the best song anybody ever wrote.'' Kresa agreed: ''When he sang the chorus, I knew it really was the greatest song ever written. NO holiday is more closely associated with music than Christmas. ![]()
